Deployment & Installation

The Caraga State University (CSU) – the partner SUC in Caraga — scheduled the PC deployment and installation to all public high school recipients on September 23, 2010 to October 5, 2010.

The process agreed was that AIR21 (the firm who are responsible for the shipping of equipments) will unload immediately the PCs in the 1^st school scheduled for the day and to proceed immediately to the 2^nd school.

The iSchools Project Manager, Mr. Jaymer Jayoma led the deployment along with his team members namely:

The following installation schedule was set:

The installation team was divided into two groups as:

Upon installation, there were devices found to be not functional and there’s a need for replacement:

Five CSU IT faculty pass ICDL Exam

Five IT faculty members from the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) revealed their skills and expertise on OpenOffice application by passing the Open International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certification examination held on June 20, 2010 at Bukidnon State University, City of Malaybalay.

The examination was conducted by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) simultaneously in three (3) testing venues, as follows: for Luzon-based examinees: Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite; for Visayas-based examinees: Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Talisay City, Negros Occidental; and for Mindanao-based examinees: Bukidnon State University, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The licensing is an internationally recognized ICT skills certification for all citizens and a qualification that certifies and exhibits the holder’s attainment of a standard level of knowledge and competence in personal computer use.

Successful ICDL passers from Caraga State University were: Jaymer M. Jayoma, iSchools project manager, Jennifer Espanola-Sabugaa, iSchools technical writer, Joel A. Mercado, iSchools technical assistant, Gleen A. Dalaorao, network administrator and Yolly G. Pelegrino, faculty member.

Presently, CSU has eight (8) IT faculty members who are Open ICDL certified and competent of teaching Free Open Source Software (FOSS) as standard material used in the training and learning ICT in the University. Included in the number were the passers of the August 13, 2008 examination schedule held at National Computer Center (NCC), Quezon City, in the persons of James V. Presbitero, CS/IT department chairman, Jesterlyn Q. Timosan, IT adviser and Junace J. Acera, faculty member.

The passers are expected to join in the iSchools project roll-out training team as resource persons of the Computer and Internet Literacy Course (CILC) for the recipients Public High School (PHS) teachers nationwide, which will be conducted on the month of August, September and October 2010.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA: COMMITMENT SITE

“You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!” Words from the song Hotel California by the Eagles were tagged as the favorite line the speakers and even the program hosts uttered when they saw the participants’ faces trying to grasp the topics of the commitment setting and planning workshop for iSchools writers conducted at UP Hotel last month.
The SUC iSchools writers from LUZVIMIN were aspired to fulfill the training objectives that will make it easy for them to prepare for the activities of the year. Strategize and schedule major activities of the content development components of the ischools project, and how knowledge management and development concepts and principles can be applied. Other objectives they aimed to fulfill were on how to obtain SUC writers’ commitment to meeting the objectives and how to facilitate the drafting of SUC specific communication plan.
Knowledge management basics, framework, tools & techniques were well discussed by the human resource expert Joseph Torrecampo. His discussions focused on the purpose of KM to capture knowledge, gain new skills in writing and to generate knowledge not only through the writer’s outputs but through the sharing of such outputs among their group. Sharing of knowledge led to the writers’ professional development while working on the iSchools project and their own professions. Another point is to value the writers’ practice and outputs not just as tasks to be done, and deadlines to be met, but as writing for higher purpose– writing from a shared knowledge towards productive, measurable output. Knowledge to be gained and expressed through writing should not be seen as benefiting oneself only, but should grow to benefit peers and students, and ultimately, it means writing with the aim of being contributory to the nation’s development.
Developing media relations was dynamically and effectively delivered by journalist Jose Torres Jr. The key points were given profound attention associated with the rules of media relation objectives.
Drafting and presentation of individual and cluster communication plan were the required outputs. These plans were presented and reviewed by the resource persons and the participants as well. At first, some participants were doubtful as to where they would start working as writers particularly the freebies. “We were hold-out!” one participant humorously said, because she was not supposed to be sent in the training. She was just told to take the online exam and unexpectedly find herself traveling going to the commitment setting and planning workshop. However, with the speakers’ knowledge to persuade and their ability to let other people understand the complexity of some topics, participants lucidly recognize the role of SUC iSchools writers.
These writers can always go anywhere, can work on anything and since they were sent
to be the iSchools writers, they can never ever leave especially when they started to feel and ready to shout out that they were committed to do their tasks as writers.

NORMISIST hosts Mindanao-wide SPW

The Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST) iSchools Project Team successfully hosted the iSchools Project Sustainability Planning Workshop (SPW) last April 15 - 17, 2009 held at the Almont Inland Resort and Hotel in Butuan City.

The SPW is an essential part of the Social Preparation Phase of the iSchools Project Life Cycle geared to equip concern officials of the project's recipient schools, enabling them to craft an effective and realistic Sustainability Plan – a tool that shall establish a backbone to the existence and sustenance of ICT delivery and efficiency for their respective schools.

The workshop was attended by the community and academic leaders from the different recipient public high schools in Mindanao. The participants were comprised by the General Parents and Teachers Association (GPTA) officers, school's principals, barangay captains and councilors and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Coordinators.

The participants were trained through lectures, workshops, and scenario settings tailored to hone an effective approach on Project Sustainability, Sustainability Considerations, and Sustainability Planning as relevant issues were addressed and discussed by competent speakers and authorities.

The participants were welcomed by the NORMISIST host-team spearheaded by Mr. Jaymer M. Jayoma, the NORMISIST ICT Coordinator and by Engr. Jonathan M. Tiongson, the iSchools Project Teachers Training Coordinator (TTC), who also functioned as the master of ceremony during the event.

Contributing to the success of the event was the collaboration of efforts made possible by the facilitators coming from the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST), Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU - IIT), Bukidnon State University (BukSU), Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT), and Davao del Norte State College (DNSC).

Ms. Antonette T. Torres, the iSchools National Project Manager led the meeting with the facilitators and discussed the issues encountered in the workshop for the improvement of future SPWs.
